The OCR module handles character recognition. Inside an ANPR deployment it converts the localised plate region into a plate string. In port and logistics deployments the same module is used to read container codes and other standardised markings.

OCR is only as good as the image it receives. In practice most accuracy problems are camera or lighting problems, not recognition problems.

Is OCR licensed separately from the engine?

It ships as part of the ANPR Engine for plate reading. A separate licence is only needed for non-plate OCR such as container codes.
