Smart parking: ticketless entry, guidance and enforcement

Smart parking — how it works, what determines whether it works well, and how CityIntegrator products implement it.

What it is

Smart parking is one component of a wider deployment rather than a product in itself. It produces events that other systems act on: a barrier opens, a session starts, an operator is alerted, a record is created.

What determines whether it works

In practice, three things dominate, in this order:

  1. Camera geometry — the angle and distance the scene is viewed from, and the resulting pixels on target. No software setting recovers what the sensor did not capture.
  2. Lighting and exposure — stability across the full day/night cycle, not just at commissioning time.
  3. Rule design — the conditions that turn a raw detection into something an operator will actually act on: zones, dwell time, schedules and thresholds.

Software configuration is the last of these, not the first. Most performance complaints resolve to the first two.

Deployment and support
